Cuatro chicos que se conocieron en la Universidad de Staffordshire, han sido comparados con The Cure, The Smiths e Interpol y su estilo es post punk revival. Desde su single de debut en 2005, ‘Bullets’, Editors se ha convertido en un grupo británico indie de referencia. Han grabado tres discos y están trabajando en el cuarto del que adelantaron hace unos días tres canciones: Two Hearted Spider, The Sting y Walking with Jesus. Quizá alguna de estas suenen en el Festival SOS 4.8 en el que estarán el sábado 7 de mayo. A las 22:00, después de White Lies y antes de Suede, Editors tocará en el escenario Estrella Levante. Russell Jonathan Leetch es el bajista de la banda y contesta a nuestras preguntas.

¿Qué función tiene para ti la crítica musical?

No suelo leer muchas críticas sobre Editors y no me importa que alguien escriba y decida si nuestra música buena o mala. Habitualmente no suelo leer reseñas musicales, es algo que no me gusta mucho para conocer a otros grupos. Me gusta juzgarlos por mí mismo, y esto es algo que se puede hacer de muchas formas, sobre todo ahora con las nuevas tecnologías.

¿Cuáles son tus intérpretes  y grupos de música favoritos?

Mi cantante favorito es Marc Bolan y mi grupo quizá sea Talking Heads.

¿Y tu canción favorita?

‘Requiem’ de Killing Joke.

¿Te gustaría compartir escenario con algún intérprete o grupo en el SOS 4.8?

Si, me encantaría ver a Patti Smith, Suede y !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk)

Resume en dos frases la historia de vuestra banda.

Empezamos, le gustamos a la gente, dejamos de gustarles, les volvimos a gustar de nuevo, tuvimos un gran éxito en Bélgica, después conseguimos que los periodistas británicos hablaran mal de nosotros y ahora vivimos en América. 🙂

¿La cosa más rara que os ha pasado en un concierto?

Cuando tocamos en Portugal, Tom Smith (vocalista de Editors), se electrocutó debido a que los aparatos electrónicos no estaban bien instalados en el escenario. Tom recibió una descarga de 240 vatios, pero ni se inmutó.

¿Último concierto al que asististes?

Killing Joke en el Irving Plaza de Nueva York.

¿Qué es lo que haces en tu tiempo libre?

Jugar mucho al tenis de mesa, es el mejor juego que se ha inventado jamás.

Soluciones para la crisis en la música…

Vender tu alma al Diablo, beber mucho alcohol y no prestar mucha atención a eso.

 ¿Qué sabes de Murcia y del SOS4.8?

Iré a tocar y a conseguir un bronceado en mayo. Estoy seguro de que el catering está bien y hay algunas buenas tapas.

What do you think about music reviews?

I don’t tend to read many Editors reviews as I don’t care what a writer thinks about our music whether positive or negative. I don’t tend to read reviews generally, they have never been a thing that attracts me to bands. I like to judge for myself and there are so many ways to do that now with modern technologies.

Which is your favourite singer and music band?

My favorite singer ever is Marc Bolan. My favorite band ever is most probably Talking Heads.

And your favourite song?

My favorite song is ‘Requiem’ by Killing Joke.

Do you like to share stage with another singers or music bands in SOS 4.8 Festival?

Yes, absolutely looking forward to seeing Patti Smith, Suede and !!! (Chk,Chk,Chk)

Can you be summed up in two sentence your musical career?

We came out, people liked us, then didn’t like us, liked us again, got huge in Belgium, got dissed by certain journalists in the UK, now live in america. : )

Can you share an anecdote in any concert?

When playing in Portugal Tom Smith was electrocuted in the mouth from the stage electronics not been set up properly. He had 240V through him but didn’t miss a note.

The last show I saw was Killing Joke at Irving Plaza in NYC.

On your spare time you like…

To play lots of table tennis, the greatest game ever invented.

Any solution for the finantial crisis in music?

Sell your soul to the devil, drink lots of alcohol and not care about it too much.

What do you know about Murcia and SOS4.8 festival?

I’m coming to play it and want to get a suntan in May. I hope the catering is good and get some good tapas.
